Present Focus
& Future Aspirations

I am an active researcher in English language, second language acquisition, and technology-mediated language learning. My current research interests include declaratively accelerated blended learning, English Language Teaching, EAP, L2 proficiency, learning technologies, quantitative research methods, second language acquisition, semiotics, and web-delivered language learning platforms.

My doctoral research, titled “An Empirical Investigation into the Effectiveness of Transparent Language Online for Teaching and Learning English Language at the Tertiary Level”, showcases my proficiency in conducting rigorous educational research. Completed in 2022, this study assessed the platform’s influence on language proficiency and learner engagement among a diverse cohort of 1,000 undergraduate students across two major private sector universities. By using a blend of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, I examined the impact of technology on language learning outcomes, yielding insights with practical implications for educational practice. The findings revealed significant improvements in listening skills (from CEFR A1 to B2/C1), reading comprehension (from CEFR A1 to B2/C1), and overall language use, contributing valuable data (10,000 observations) to the discourse on integrating technology into educational contexts.

With 22 publications in peer-reviewed journals, I have explored various topics, including Peircean semiotic analysis of House Stark in A Game of Thrones (2024), the impact of Transparent Language Online on L2 listening outcomes (2024), the impact of technological tools on the academic performance of English language learners (2022), computer-assisted language learning and English learning in Cihan University (2022), the impact of emotional intelligence on cognitive strategy uses of Saudi English (2022), the factors behind studying English for academic purposes (2021), and other related themes.

My commitment to scholarly contribution extends beyond my research. I serve as a reviewer for numerous prestigious journals, including those published by Routledge Taylor & Francis, Sage, and Elsevier. I am the Journal Editor for Linguistics and Literature Review and a Section Editor for Digital Learning Innovations in the Forum for Education Studies.

I actively engage in conferences and symposia to share ideas and collaborate. Recently, I organised the first International Conference of the School of Liberal Arts (ICSLA-2024) on the theme “Peripheral Epistemologies: Voicing the Unvoiced” (April 18-20, 2024). I have presented at various international conferences, including the Cambridge University Press 3-day Academic English Online Conference. My work includes leading workshops and webinars on topics such as “Enhancing Student Engagement in Virtual Learning Environments” and “Blended Learning Essentials”, as well as providing training for educators on integrating technology into their teaching practices.

Looking ahead, I am particularly interested in the metaverse and how artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) can enhance language learning experiences. I plan to conduct original research, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses on the effectiveness of these technologies in language education, as well as on various web-based learning platforms, including Transparent Language Online, Rosetta Stone, Duolingo, Babbel, Busuu, Hello English, and iTalki. My research will focus on key features such as user engagement metrics, adaptability to different learning styles, the effectiveness of gamification elements, mobile app functionality, and learner retention rates. By evaluating these aspects, I aim to identify the best tools for language learners.

By examining these innovative approaches and their impact on language acquisition, I aim to provide valuable insights that will inform best practices in language education. My commitment to exploring these new frontiers and sharing my findings is driven by a desire to foster a brighter future for language learners worldwide. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and effective learning platforms, I seek to enhance the educational experience and support learners in achieving their language goals.
