Leadership Roles
2024 – Present
Director, General Education Department
Akhuwat College University Kasur
I lead the transformation of English language education and general academic development, equipping underserved students with global-standard proficiency, career readiness, and digital fluency. I established the Transformative English Language Program, integrating Transparent Language Online (TLO) to bridge language and digital literacy gaps among first-time technology users. To measure and enhance proficiency, I launched a research study on TLO’s efficacy, incorporating Transparent PULSE testing and CEFR-aligned assessments. This initiative follows a structured 16-week improvement plan combining AI-driven learning, interactive assessments, and real-world applications.
Beyond language instruction, I am restructuring the General Education curriculum to align with HEC UGEP 2023, CEFR, and SDG (4, 8, 9) while embedding Islamic values, Iqbal’s philosophy, and Riyasat-e-Madina principles into student learning. I have developed a three-year phased plan to establish specialized centers in English, Mathematics, Islamic Studies, and Humanities, ensuring interdisciplinary collaboration and global academic standards.
To expand Akhuwat’s visibility, I initiated the university’s first student publication, The Akhuwat Review: Voices Unseen, highlighting transformative education stories. Additionally, I am integrating AI-powered tools, adaptive learning methods, and automated assessments for data-driven student progress tracking. Collaborating with Prof. Luke Plonsky, I am refining language learning methodologies for underserved students.
To sustain free, high-quality education, I am leading efforts to secure funding partnerships with organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Qatar Foundation, and Islamic donors while also engaging with the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) to promote educational equity in Pakistan.
Recognizing the importance of career readiness, I introduced soft skills and workplace preparation programs, helping students develop interpersonal communication, verbal fluency, and industry-relevant competencies. I designed job interview preparation sessions incorporating analytical reasoning and sector-specific training to enhance employability. Academic and professional writing skills are a core focus, ensuring students master structured writing, critical analysis, and real-world communication.
Through these initiatives, I am modernizing English education, strengthening interdisciplinary learning, and preparing students to succeed in an evolving global landscape.
2022–2024
Chairperson, Department of English & Literary Studies (DELS)
University of Management & Technology (UMT), Lahore, Pakistan
As Chairperson of the Department of English and Literary Studies (DELS) at UMT, my focus has always been on teamwork, collaboration, and achieving academic goals. I oversee the BS English Literature, MPhil English Literature, and PhD English Literature programs, ensuring that both students and faculty receive the guidance and support necessary for success. I prioritize my team’s success over individual recognition, encouraging initiative and collective effort towards our shared objectives.
With the help of an exceptional team, we have presented and successfully executed several key initiatives within major university bodies, including the Board of Studies, Board of Faculty, Graduate Committees, and the Academic Council. These efforts have enhanced the department’s standing and contributed to important academic policy decisions.
I have been actively involved in key committees, such as the Students’ Academic Complaint Committee, where we resolved student concerns efficiently, and the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Committees for both MPhil and BS programs, ensuring quality standards are met. As part of the SLA Outcome-Based Education Committee, I played a role in incorporating Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) into the curriculum, improving academic structure and consistency.
My responsibilities as Editor of the Linguistics and Literature Review (LLR) involve managing peer reviews, overseeing manuscript editing, and ensuring high standards in publication. Through initiatives like the Faculty Research Forum, I have helped support research activity and encouraged our faculty to push the boundaries of academic inquiry. Additionally, I have been involved in peer observations, admissions promotions, and the organization of workshops and webinars.
Our team’s collective efforts have resulted in over 55 peer-reviewed publications and a significant increase in citations within a short period. We also successfully reintroduced the PhD English Literature program after a seven-year pause. The integration of AI in our MPhil and PhD programs and other technological advancements continues to push the department forward, offering students and faculty the best possible resources for academic success.
